HADRON VORTEX PROTO LIGHT

A LIGHT INSTALLATION PROTOTYPE BY GEOFF FARQUHAR-STILL.

On the Southern side of the new Woolstore building is a commanding 10 metre high artwork using mixed media, illustration and painting to pay homage to the city’s original urban planners who’ve left an indelible mark on the city. The site is important, as it is the corner of what was originally intended to be one of the converging points of The Griffins’ original main avenues to the Causeway (which was one of the few not completely built out) connecting across the lake.

The original concept for the light grew from research into the Large Hadron Collider and an attempt to visualise what the forces within the collider might look like if there were a chance to see them.

The Light was fabricated using Holograms to assist in the forming of the stainless steel flat bar supports to ensure that they accurately fitted the laser cut slots. This involved using the Microsoft Hololens during the fabrication process to visualise the 3D model.

The installation is a one of a kind prototype by local sculptor Geoff Farquhar-Still and can be found in the entrance to our gym facility – AEQUUS movement.
